dc.description.abstractThis thesis was prepared on a typewriter before the days of Desk Top Publishing. All diagrams and formulae were hand drawn and photocopied. Photographs were also photocopied. The optical system devised for the instrument developed and described in the thesis is the subject of British Provisional Patent no. 4333/64 claimed by United Power Company in the name of G. K. Caulton.en
dc.description.sponsorshipThe development and manufacture of the instrument, which is the subject of this thesis, was sponsored by United Power Company Limited, (formally Atomic Power Constructions Limited). The development laboratories were situated at Heston in Middlesex but the company is no longer trading. APC Ltd. designed and built the Nuclear Power Station at Trawsfynydd in North Wales.-
