Abstract: Copyright © The Author 2020. The purpose of this short piece is to examine literature exploring the concept of ‘success’. Drawing on my research examining how female professors construct their career success, the aim is to highlight the contested nature of what constitutes ‘success’, and to consider how this knowledge could be drawn on by policy-makers to better inform attempts to improve academic outcomes for all children, regardless of their background.
