dc.description.abstractIn this thesis a new theoretical model for the three dimensional images from a finite aperture in-line Fraunhofer hologram is presented. Existing work only deals with the case of single object, in this thesis this work has been extended to the case of two identical coplanar discs. The resulting image equation is solved numerically for several different limiting apertures and their results are compared with the image intensity data from the holograms recorded on Agfa BE 75HD film. Excellent quantitative agreement is found, verifying the theoretical predictions. Three different criteria for determining the disc diameter and disc separation describing their errors are discussed for both numerical and experimental data. A data acquisition system based upon a digital interfaced with a PC, and high resolution video camera is described.en_US
